Woman: A tapestry of words between Syria & Iran
Sat, March 2, 2019, 3:00 PM – 4:15 PM PST

As the Syrian revolution continues in its 7th year, tensions with Iran grow, further hindering the relations between the citizens of those two countries. Four women poets want to break that tension with their love & creation of poetry, two Syrian & two Iranian.

Lady Narrator (a.k.a Dania Ayah Alkhouli) is a Syrian American poet and author exploring themes of feminism, sexuality, culture, religion identity, mental health, domestic violence, and her war-torn homeland, Syria.

Azin Mafi is an Iranian born artist who explores marginalization, displacement, and social justice through poetry, prose and storytelling.

Mouminat Damer is a Syrian-American poet, author and adjunct instructor of English, who focuses on the experience of growing up as a first-generation Arab-American Muslim woman and the cultural differences that left her identity scattered across the two different cultures.

Sheila J. Sadr is a first-generation Iranian-American poet, journalist, educator, and resident cow-enthusiast nuzzled somewhere along the southern California coast. She took first place at the 2018 Jack Rabbit Poetry Slam and was a finalist in the 2018 NOT A CULT Poetry Submission Contest. Her work has been featured/forthcoming in Nat. Brut, The United Nations, The Definitive Soapbox, Tinderbox Poetry, BOAAT, and many other gems. You can find her on Instagram @ohohsheilaa or at her website at sheilajsadr.com
